Sejarah dan Visi Misi Prodi Manajemen UIN Maliki Malang
Berdirinya Prodi Manajemen UIN Maliki Malang berawal pada tahun 1997 ketika UIN Maliki masih berstatus STAIN (Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri) Malang, yang mulai membuka beberapa jurusan baru, antara lain jurusan Syariah dengan program studi Akhwal Syakhshiyyah dan Mu’amalah. Program Studi Muamalah yang diarahkan untuk pengembangan Ekonomi Islam itu digagas untuk mengantisispasi kebutuhan sumberdaya manusia (human resources) yang menguasai ilmu ekonomi yang berbasis syariah, baik sebagai akademisi maupun praktisi sejalan fenomena perkembangan ekonomi syariah di Indonesia pada waktu itu dan akan datang.
Eksistensi Program Studi Muamalah yang selanjutnya difokuskan pada pengembangan Program Studi Manajemen itu secara yuridis semakin kuat dengan adanya payung hukum, yaitu rekomendasi Direktur Jendral Pendidikan Nasional Nomor 2486/D/T/2001 tanggal 25 juli 2001 tentang pembukaan Program Studi S-1 pada IAIN dan STAIN dalam rangka Wider Mandate di lingkungan Departemen Agama dan dikuatkan dengan Keputusan Direktur Jendral Pembinaan Kelembagaan Islam Departemen Agama RI Nomor 213/E/2001 tanggal 25 Juli 2001 tentang izin penyelenggaraan Program Studi Manajemen (S-1) Konsentrasi Manajemen Syariah pada STAIN Malang. Dengan dasar hukum ini, Program Studi (S-1) konsentrasi manajemen syariah secara resmi dibuka. Saat itu program studi tersebut masih di bawah Jurusan Syariah STAIN Malang, dan sejak awal berdirinya (tahun akademik 1997/1998) jumlah mahasiswa sebanyak 48 mahasiswa dengan rincian 22 laki dan 26 perempuan.
Lalu pada tahun 2002 ketika STAIN Malang berubah menjadi Universitas Islam Indonesia Sudan (UIIS) Malang, program studi yang dikembangkan masih sama dengan periode STAIN, yaitu Program Studi Manajemen Konsentrasi Manajemen Syariah di bawah jurusan Syariah, berdasarkan rekomendasi program studi Umum pada UIIS Malang yang dikeluarkan oleh Menteri Agama RI Nomor 330/MA/2002 tanggal 18 September 2002. Namun demikian, secara internal bersamaan dengan beberapa jurusan di lingkungan UIIS Malang dikembangkan menjadi fakultas, maka saat itu pula Fakultas Ekonomi lahir memisahkan diri dari induknya, Fakultas Syariah.
