HPSN sendiri jatuh setiap tanggal 21 Februari, sekaligus menjadi momen untuk mengingatkan masyarakat akan pentingnya kepedulian terhadap sampah.
Dalam kegiatan tersebut, Wali Kota Malang Sutiaji menuturkan sampah merupakan tanggung jawab bersama. Sebab akan menjadi sebuah ancaman, jika perilaku manusia terhadap sampah kurang baik.

“Ini yang harus kita kuatkan. Literasi masyarakat berkaitan dengan perilaku untuk sampah dan ramah lingkungan,” tutur Sutiaji di TPA Supit Urang, Senin (21/2/2022).
Ia melanjutkan, sampah yang dimanfaatkan dengan baik, bisa diolah menjadi sumber energi. Seperti halnya melalui bank sampah.
“Dimulai dari perilaku masyarakat. Mulai dari rumah seharusnya sudah ada pemilahan sampah. Yang perlu kita perhatikan utamanya adalah sampah plastik yang sulit untuk dimusnahkan,” jelas Sutiaji.

“Ada penyerahan bantuan dari Indolakto berupa pupuk dan bibit tanaman. Selain itu juga mengajak anak-anak untuk menanam. Sengaja memang mau kita hijaukan daerah sini,” terangnya.
Selain untuk penghijauan, penanaman pohon juga sebagai media pembiasaan kepada anak untuk mencintai lingkungan sejak dini.
Pada kegiatan ini, juga diserahkan bantuan berupa kompos untuk sekolah dan kunjungan belajar di area sanitary landfill. Kurang lebih ada 48 sekolah yang ada di Kota Malang mengikuti kegiatan yang digelar di TPA Supit Urang, Kecamatan Sukun.
